Yes, there are some named Maciel living in Sao Mateus, Pico still.
But if you have done research there, you will know it is a quite popular name there and so there are many branches. I don't know all of them, so can't tell you whether they descend from your own same branch.

But no matter what, it will be fun for you to determine that in person!

My great grandfather was Manuel Rosa Maciel from Pico, born in 1821.  My grandfather (whom I never knew), Antonio Rosa Maciel, was born in San
Mateus, Pico on Nov. 13, 1860.  I'm wondering how common the name "Maciel" is or was.  I'm going to the Azores in June and hope to find kinfolk there.  I am practically computer illiterate, which is surely a handicap.

I'm a bit new at this...

I've traced an ancestor (Manuel Vieira Maciel) to Pico, he was born on Pico Feb 25 1884 and emigrated to the US. I have no other information. Are there any index pages within the CCA? or do I just have to go through it page by page?
