Personally, Lee, I think you need to consult the tutorial on how to read Portuguese records, before you attempt to read any other records.
#1 Anna - you list Anna's father's surname as Hortins or Ortins, I would not read it that way, I would read it as* [Martins]* but, if your family has been using Hortins, or Ortins, then that is their name; Anna's mother, is Maria Josefa (womens' surnames are not normally listed in early records). The dates on the record *only* apply to the child. The date of birth is listed in full, while the baptism lists only the actual date of the event. There is* no one* "incognito" in this record. #2 Anna - Once again, you are trying to read dates into places where they are not listed - *The only dates on baptism narratives apply to the date of birth of the child, and the date of the event of baptism. *In this case 19-Sep-1788 is the date of birth, and the baptism occured on the 20th day of the same month and year. You did get Anna's father's name correct, it is Domingos Jose Bettencourt; his wife's name is Maria de* [Athayde]* - this is one of those circumstances where the woman's surname *was* listed. #3 Maria - The words* "de funto"* don't appear in this narrative. The word after "Freguesia" is* "nasceo"* which means "born," and it then goes on to list the date of birth, and baptism. -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores.
