Ralph, Amusing is a good word. Especially after listening to geneticists explain things. These discussions here come no where near close.
It's about 50-50 from each parent. But it could vary like 49-51%. But not 60-40%. Is there documentation? Yes. You'd have to look up the academic studies. How the sex of a baby is fact. A boy is XY. A girl is XX. In the lecture I gave in Salt Lake, I had Fred Flintstone as XY and Wilma Slaghoople as XX. Pebbles, their daughter is XX. So she got X from mom and an X from dad. Then I had Barney Rubble (XY) and Betty, his wife (XX) and their son, Bam Bam as XY. He got the Y that made him a boy and the only parent with the Y is his dad, so he got Y from dad and the X from mom. In THEORY (reality is different), we get 50% from our parents, 25% from our grandparents, 12.5% from our greats, 6.25% from our 2 Greats, etc. Who says that we both got the SAME 6.25% from our 2 greats? This is a simplified version of how siblings are different. Roberta Estes explains it much more technically in her blog, DNA Xplained.
