Hi Melody,

I agree the date is 1815. “pai nao sabido” is just another way of writing “pai
incognito”

I noticed the writer mad several mistakes and corrected himself “digo” so it
does not surprise me that he wrote paterno instead of materno.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Record in the wrong year (Mosteiros)?

I have been working more on my cousin's Raposo line. I have found Francisco
Raposo's baptismal and now can prove he and Manoel Raposo are brothers (mother
and grandmother match). The baptismals for this era are indexed in Mosteiros.
As I was going through looking for Francisco's, I found this one: Francisco
parent: Maria Francisca and Pai Incognito. This caught my eye because
Manoel's grandmother was Maria Francisca who was also single.

The record I found was in the middle of 1836, which was too early for the Maria
Francisca that I am looking for. However, am I reading the date right? It
says Mil Outo Centos e Quinze -- 1815? There is a note at the end that seems to
say that the entry was archived 5 March 1836. I want to make sure because I've
been tricked by numbers before. If that is right, there is a slight
possibility this is a sibling of Maria Jacintha, mother of Manoel and
Francisco. More work would have to be done to prove that connection. Though
it references Ginetes, which fits what I found on Manoel Raposo's baptismal
record.

Also curious is this is a Pai nao sabido...Does this translate the same as Pai
Incognito? The reason I ask is the follows with "Neto Paterno Rajmundo de
Medeiros and Francisca dos Anjos". Did the writer mess up and write Paterno
instead of Materno (the Materno is missing) or could they have named the
maternal grandparents without actually naming the father?

Here is the entry:

This has been the trickiest research trail that I've followed in a long time!

Thanks for the help!
Mel
