My grandmother, Francisca, had three Maria sisters. Not unusual except the order Maria, Maria, Francisca, Maria of the four girls matches the pattern exactly for the previous generation Maria, Maria, Francisca, Maria. The first two Marias of my grandmother's generation each married a Manoel Lima. Took years to sort that out.
On a related note, I have a few "expostas" in my ancestry and none of them are named Maria. Is that intentional? Was the name Maria reserved for "legitimate" children?
