Maybe. I never thought about it. I just went right now to Sao Miguel Arcanjo church (the Matriz - they seem to have more expostos) in Vila Franca on Sao Miguel island and I checked the baptism index for Maria. I looked at the end of the Marias, the beginning of the Marias, Marias born to parents whose name start with P (for Pais incognitos), Marias born to parents whose name start with I (for Incognitos). I didn't see any. I don't know if they weren't indexed or maybe it's one of those rules, like you observed. Next time I'm searching the records, I'm going to remember that and see if it pans out (at least on Sao Miguel where I do most of my research).
