Hi Bill, My understanding of the term "filha/o familias" is that it denotes someone who has not yet reached their majority and still dependent on their family-- i.e., not of age and/or not yet married. I think that usually, it's followed by the head of family's name, so you're right in assuming that there's some info missing. I think (must check) the age of majority was around 25. Perhaps someone else can confirm or correct that.
