Sean,

Define "years around." 3 years on either side of the approximate birth
date? 5 years? 10 years? They may be as much as 10 years off.

It may be easier to find the marriage of the parents a generation back.
Then you can trace forward for the birth of your ancestors (although I do
trace a couple of years before marriage too. If there was a dispensation,
they may have started having kids before the marriage).

Alternatively, you can pretend your ancestors were 18 at marriage and go to
Capelas 18 years before their marriage and start searching backwards in the
births. I wouldn't be hunting just for your ancestor. I'd be collecting all
their siblings too.

Also, because you are on Faial, use NEPS as a guide.
