David -

Mine are also from Gracioca (Guadalupe). Direct line back the name flips
between mother and father on two occasions. Here’s the direct line back as far
as we have it (João Ventura did a lot of the record finding in the archives for
us)

Manoel Correia Athayde (1893-1986) - b. Graciosa, emigrated to US via Brazil
(Manaus); my great-grandfather
Adelaide Isabel de Athayde do Conde (1856 - 1942) m. José Correia de Melo
José Espínola de Ataíde (1795 - 1868)
Manuel Espínola de Ataíde (1749-1839)
Domingo da Silva de Ataíde (1720 - ?)
D. Catarina de Ataíde (1683 - ?) m. Manuel Espinola de Bettencourt
D. Maria de Ataíde m Antonio Durta de Quadros
Maria Rebelo de Ataíde (d. 20 Apr 1700) m. Pedro Afonso Balieiro (d 08 Oct 1706)

the last ones there we have that they were buried in the chapel of Nossa
Senhora da Esperança and that they lived nearby. I’m still entering data into
my system so some of the records/dates I don’t have on hand right now.

Cheers
J
