I was searching for info on one of my ancestors Galas Viegas de Ataide and
came across this British History Online website.

http://www.british-history.ac.uk/

My ancestor and other individuals were mentioned in:

Calendar of State Papers Foreign, Elizabeth, Volume 16, May-December 1582.
Originally published by His Majesty's Stationery Office, London, 1909.

The letter, which was from the Calendar of State papers in 1582 talks about
a group of Portuguese who had a run-in with an English Pirate Thomas Kem
who robbed a Portuguese ship going from Portugal to Brazil. He then took
the well-armed vessel into the port of Angra.

A group of Portuguese/Azoreans then (at somepoint) gave testimony about
what they had heard and seen by the English pirate...

Anyways, there are some other articles and letters that talk about
Portuguese related activities on the British History Online website..

Just wanted to share, and maybe someone will find something interesting
relating to their ancestors, or about the Portuguese back in that time
period.
