I need help with the Fragoso last name and I was wondering if any of you have ever seen this before, where a last name just seems to appear out of nowhere.
so, I have discovered something interesting. In all of the records that I have discovered so far on my father's side the last name is always d'Andrade. There are only 2 entries where Fragoso is referenced. 1. Manuel's baptismal certificate has his father's last name as d'Andrade (no mention of Fragoso) but on Maria Jose Cabral's (his wife) baptismal record, there is a margin notation that she married Manuel d'Andrade Fragoso (now they added Fragoso to his last name). 2. The other record which shows Fragoso is on a birth record of Maria who's father's name is Manuel D'Andrade Fragoso (not the same manuel as above but tracing the lineage he was brother of the Manuel above's father). Does that make sense? Anyhow, this is a bit of a mystery. How and why did the Fragoso name just appear?
