Hi, I am searching through Candelaria on Pico and notices that for the years 1876-1888 they had two different records. Does anyone know why this was done?

It looks like someone rewrote the records perhaps? On the second page can anyone make out what it says in the margin? Can anyone also make out his maternal grandmothers name? Thanks!
