I must have. I see that her husband Manuel de Avila was born 2/25/1664 in
Agualva and her in 1606 in Biscoitos. Thanks for pointing that out and giving
me an opportunity to correct my database.
I checked the book that I got from Joao. It has Manuel de Avila born 2/25/1664
in Agualva married Margarida Goncalves on 6/11/1699, Biscoitos, Terceira. They
are my 4th Great Grandparents on my Berbereia side of the family. Margarida’s
birth date came from an online tree that ties into my family tree, so
Margarida’s birth date is not from Joao’s work but someone else’s. I email a
relative that also had this in their posted tree. I’m removing it from my tree
and asked them to removed it from theirs. I’m wondering if it is on my posted
trees. If so I will need to check them and load new trees. I hate when I spread
misinformation. Thanks for pointing this out. 😊

Doreen,  I have Margarida Goncalves as born in 1667.' And married in 1699.  Did
you have a typo on her birth date of 1606?

Thanks for the info.
I thought I would share the information I have on the other Barrantes from the
1300’s: She was Dona Maria Fernandes Barrantes (in my book from Joao Ventura on
page 433) married to Joao Lourenco do Amaral. Dona Maria and Joao have a
daughter Dona Brites Anes do Amaral who was born about 1410. Dona Brites (pg
397-433) marries Vasco Cardoso and they have a son named Luis Vaz Cardoso born
about 1420 (pg 397). Luis married Leanor Rodrigues de Vasconcelos and they have
a son named Joao Vaz Cardoso (pg 397). Joao marries Dona Maria de Faria and
they have a son who appears in my tree twice. Their son’s name was Martim Anes
Cardoso (reference number 164, page 397, 407-397). Martim with unknown woman
has Ines Martins Cardoso and Henrique Cardoso. Ines Martins Cardoso (pg 407)
was born about 1475 and she marries Alvaro Martins Homem. Henrique (pg 397)
marries Beatriz Afonso Homem.
I’m wondering if the 1600’s and 1300’s Barrantes/Barrancos lines will connect
and if I should change the name of the other Barrantes in my database to
Barrancos. What is the proper method for handling this new information?

Additional I have a Pedro Goncalves (pg 171) married to a Maria Rodrigues and
they have a child named Beatriz Goncalves who was born in Biscoitos. Beatriz
marries Antonio Goncalves Caldeira from Biscoitos in 1654. They have a child
name Margarida Goncalves born 1606 in Biscoitos and marries Manuel de Avila
from Agualva in 1699. Margarida and Manuel have a daughter named Beatriz dos
Reis born 1707 in Agualva who marries Manuel Fernandes Vieira of Biscoitos in
1727, Beatris and Manuel have a son named Francisco Vieira born in Biscoitos
who marries Esperanca de Jesus in Altares in 1775. After this couple the line
stays in Altares. The name seem to follow some of the line you provided. Maybe
they connect?
Thank you. Doreen

Dear Doreen,

To me, this surname is not Barrantes, but BARRANCOS.
I have two others Barrancos in my data base :
- Antonio Martins Barrancos married in 1712 com Maria do Espirito Santo from
Altares. His grandfather is Pedro Gonçalves, without name of the grandmother.
It's possibly Pedro Gonçalves Barrancos. The Antonio's mother is Beatriz
Rodrigues, then perhaps sister of your Maria Rodrigues.
- Pacoal Martins Barrancos from Fonte Bastardo, married in 1733 with Maria de
Santo Antônio.

Maria Rodrigues married in 1657. Then, born before 1644 (1st batism date). But
Beatriz Rodrigues married in 1673. Perhapes born after 1644, and with others
informations on this family.

Best regards

I have this couple as the parents of Maria Rodrigues, who married Francisco
Fagundes on 2/4/1657 in Altares, Terceira. Maria Rodrigues was Francisco's 2nd
wife. His 1st wife was Maria Goncalves. I see the records indicates that Maria
Rodrigues was from Altares. Is there any other leads from the record. I can not
find these people anywhere else and you know what that means....blindly
searching the baptism and death records for this time period. I was hoping
someone from the group might know more... Especially since the last name
Barrantes is not very common. I only have it one other time in my
database....D. Maria Fernandes Barrantes, which is from the 1300's.

record on the bottom right side is for their daughter Maria Rodrigues's
marriage. I would appreciate any leads possible. Thanks Doreen
