Joanne, I've looked this over several times and believe the baptism date was left off. It does say baptized in the parish of his parents, as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents so you know everyone is from this same parish. It also says the maternal grandfather, Manuel Pires, is the godfather. The birthdate is 22 Jan 1832 (I see 1832 not 1836) so it can't be before that. The next baptism was on 2 Feb 1832 so that gives a 10-day window.
There is something odd about this book in that the last records are from 1832 even though it covers up to 1836. The pages are out of order.
