The name is Noronha. It has noble heritage from Madeira. Now I know the 
short form looks like Mai (Mae=mother), but it is meant to be [Mur.] I have 
seen this many times, it stands for mulher. So, Joze Augusto Homem de 
Noronha e sua mulher Dona Maria Jozepha da Silveira... Of course the 
spellings differ from era to era; and sometimes from priest to priest!
