Yes, the records are there if you look for them. But I take issue with the people who just grab my research for their tree and link it to someone in their tree who is not that person. Genealogy isn't about winning because you have the most people in your tree. :)
If I see info in another person's tree I want to verify the info with actual records. And I'm also glad to share what I know (and links to documents) with someone I think I'm related to.
