I'm having limited success finding information on my grandfather, Jose De Mello. Family records shows he emigrated to Hawaii from Azores. Based on the 1930 census for Honolulu, he was 50 yrs old (which then calculates to 1880 birth year) and emigrated 1882 around 2 years old.
My understanding is the family likely came from Sao Miguel around 1882: Father - Jose de Mello Mother - Frances/Francisca Children - Antone, Augustine, Joseph, and Manuel (born on the ship) I requested my grandfather's death certificate from Hawaii but it was of limited help as no date of birth or birthplace was given. Does anyone have Robert DeMello's book, "Portuguese Immigrants from Azores to Sandwich Isles, 1879-1883: Passport Index"? Based on a list I've seen, Jose de Melo and Francisca de Conceicao are shown on page 256. I would appreciate if someone can look and see if this might be the Jose and Frances I'm searching for. Thanks in advance! Nina DeMello -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Azores Genealogy" group.
