Hi, I've been trying to search Luz, Graciosa baptism records which is difficult since the script is hard to read and I know so little Portuguese. I have been trying to use Google Translate which sometimes works and other times gives me strange translations which means that I've misread letters. I have determined that my grandmother, Maria Pacheco de Mello was the "natural daughter" of an unmarried woman, Laurentina Isabel dos Santos who was the "natural" daugher of a single woman, Joaquina bandida. I don't think that bandida is a surname as it is not capitalized and I have seen it elsewhere. The literal translation is bandit! Is this an expression. Does anyone know what it means in this context. Thanks. Helen
