Fernando, Is it possible that the Raleza surname was originally an alcunha and that the spelling has changed? The word "realeza" means "royalty" in both Portuguese and Spanish. Maybe one of Mr. Soares' ancestors was a descendant of royalty, or acted as if he was. Just a guess.
