Sorry guys, I deleted my posts because I suddenly realized I had searched the wrong name. It should have been Joao, *not Jose.* In any case, it was not hard doing a quick search for Joao born to a Sousa parent in all of the Ponta Delgada freguesias of Sao Miguel on or about the date of May 25- 1847. Nor could I find one in Ponta Delgada, Flores. So the date is probably an error or a guess. Without the name of a parent, it may be impossible to find his baptism, because, in addition to an immediate parent with a Souza name, Joao de Souza may have taken his name from a grandparent.
