I think we should read the CH, not as in Charles but as in Car. He may have worked in a lime kiln for it was called 'Caleiro' or forno de cal. In the record the priest wrote Calneiro. Cal [lime] +neiro [worker]. The eiro comes from the word 'obr-eiro' one that works; worker, thus a capenter=carpint+eiro, mason=pedr+eiro etc.
