Hi Annie,

Sao Miguel is the most populated island, holding half of the population of
the Azores. Today, it's close to a quarter of a million people.

Ancestry.com won't have the records that you need. As I stated, they are on
Tombo.pt.

There's no guarantee that because your ancestors sailed from the port of
Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel island that they were from there. People from
both Sao Miguel as well as Santa Maria islands sailed from that port.
However, if you were on any island and need to leave on the next available
ship, you went to that port and left. Luckily, those are only a few cases
and most people left from their home port.

If you know the date that your immigrant ancestors arrived in America, you
can search the "passaportes" LEAVING Sao Miguel island.
Go here (click the British flag to navigate in English):
https://tombo.pt/d/acores
Scroll down to the port of Ponta Delgada. 1903 is split between two books.
You'll have to scan the name column and look at every Margarida to see if
she was born to the parents that you have.
Good luck,
Cheri Mello
