Appears to me that עוה AWAH is 'bend, deviate'. It is a variant of
עבה ABAH, 'thicken' ––– what is bent is thick, or humped, and
what is straight is thin. AWAH is like the עות AWAT of Ps. 146:9,
translated by KJV as turneth upside down. Today we use עויה AWAYAH
for 'grimace', and עוית AWIYT for 'convulsion'. M-U-WAT מעוות
is 'distorted'.
