Dear list members. Part of Karl's comment is indeed correct - I made a mistake with the identification of the root. It is indeed Y(D as Karl pointed out. Nevertheless, I stand by the basic point of my comment "that Amos 3:3 is the niphal of the same root and means "to endure with / tolerate." And that this equally applies to Ex21:8.

I believe the correct translation is as follows: "If she is bad / unpleasant in the sight of her lord, such that he cannot endure / tolerate her then he must let her go........." In Amos3:3 the correct translation is : "Can two walk together, without the possibility of them being able to tolerate / endure together?"
