You're actually right (pretty much)- there's an error in the article.
The length of copyright on most things (visual artworks, the written
word, musical works) is the life of the author + 70 years.
the length of copyright on sound recordings is 50 years from the date
of publication - it is this second date that the BPI, PPL, Musician's
Union, et. al. wanted to 'harmonise' upwards to life + 70.
Nothing, to my knowledge, has a copyright term of life + 50, although
there are a few other classes of work that have different copyright
terms.
