My version is perl-5.8.5-36.el4_5.2 and it was installed about the time I started having the Compress:Zlib error problem so would it be possible to uninstall this perl version and have it go back to the previous version?
Of course that's possible, but it shouldn't be necessary, as I'm running that version of Perl as well on CentOS 4 and BackupPC is working just fine using Dag's perl-Compress-Zlib package:
# rpm -q perl perl-Compress-Zlib perl-5.8.5-36.el4_5.2 perl-Compress-Zlib-2.008-1.el4.rf # cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 4.5 (Final) Nils Breunese.
