I did originally do a CPAN install of Compress:Zlib & Archive::Zip but I was
having trouble with CPAN where it couldn't install the packages and kept
failing. Then people were telling me that I shouldn't use CPAN but should
use rpms instead so I tried that too. How do you get CPAN to work again
maybe it would fix the rest?

I'm not sure about that. It's hard to do anything rpm-wise with perl except
upgrade because so many other things depend on it. I don't have a 64-bit
Centos4.x to compare but it is still in the same relative i386 position on a
32 bit machine - but the current package should be
5.8.8-5.el4s1_2 (hmmm - that might be from centosplus, though). Perhaps you
did a CPAN install of PathTools and removed it. A reinstall of that might
fix things for the moment.
