Ed

perl-5.8.5-36.el4_5.2 is the current version for RHEL 4 and related  
distros.  Cwd.pm should be included in it.
Type

rpm -V perl

to verify the installed package, it will say if anything is missing

Also, what does

perl -V

tell you about the @INC path ?
