So we both agree it's a BUG... :) I also tried just using --specials which also didn't work.. And '-D' *does* backup & restore devices... so seems like the issue is that 'specials' are not being restored (but they are dumped properly)... which is the BUG that I originally reported at the start of the thread... > --devices > This option causes rsync to transfer character and block device > files to the remote system to recreate these devices.
