Firouz, I do not know why the Prophet married her. I believe in the intrinsic purity of character of all Manifestations of God though. i can't imagine Muhammad doing something like that for pure lust.
I can well imagine that a girl of 9-10 can make up her mind on what kind of man she wants to marry. A child of that age can have also remarkable spiritual insight. I have forgotten the story of Aisha, why the Prophet married her.
