The Baha'i Studies Listserv To me, the biggest mistake made in our campaign was the way most of us were dressed. What happened at one house confirmed my suspicions. A person was out back and without seeing us called out hello. As soon as he did see us he said "We're not interested, thanks". How is it he guessed we were there for religious reasons when we hadn't said anything? Obviously because we were dressed well, and missionaries normally are. I think most of us were dressed too formally and would have got a better response if we weren't trying so hard to look like missionaries. Being dignified is one thing, looking like missionaries is another. If you look like missionaries people are more likely to want to get rid of you. And do we really need to dress better than people who's houses we're going to?
