The Baha'i Studies Listserv
Thanks to everyone that has helped out on this topic. I was wondering if
anyone knows of any "academic" historical treatments of the W&T. Like a
paper that penetrates into what was going on historically to the Baha'is
during each of the three stages of the development of the W&T. I think that
would be really interesting. I know there are alot of "theological"
commentaries on the W&T from many different perspectives but I haven't seen
a "historical" treatment of the W&T, some context to the W&T. One thing
that would be interesting to me, and I am fuzzy on the details, would be the
appointment of the Hands during Abdu'l-Baha's lifetime to protect the faith
in case of Abdu'l-Bahas death and what impact that would have on the context
of the W&T in relation to the relationship of the Hands (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hands_of_the_Cause) to the Guardianship. For
the Guardian, Shoghi Effendi ( (March 1<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_1>,
1897 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1897> — November
4<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_4>,
1957 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1957>) [rock on Pisces], would have been
an child at the time of the first writing of the W&T in 1906. I guess my
question is how does historical context impact theological understanding of
the W&T?

peace,

mike
