The Baha'i Studies Listserv
Yo friends!

On a number of occasions I have been informed by Moslems that the Bahai
Faith is really a British inspired conspiracy to divide the Moslem world.

Fringe beliefs are often quite difficult to counteract or pull apart. Lately
for example, I have been listening to a late night radio program called
"Coast to Coast AM". It caters to all kinds of fringe ideas. Often callers
phone in to describe their belief in the "Shadow People" or "The Men in
Black" and UFOs and Ghosts and Time Travel. Lots of lovely stuff.

All in all I enjoy hearing what my fellow human beings have to say on these
curious subjects. What we have to also recognize is that many Bahais hold to
many fringe ideas as well. I regularly hear Bahais talk about receiving
"signs" and "omens" that directly relate to many of our teachings. When I
hear a Bahai espouse an idea that I may consider odd. I don't immediately
jump on them and tell them that they are wrong. I feel that we all hold to
may inept ideas that will in time correct themselves. I always ask myself
how would Abdul Baha deal with it?

The question remains is how do we differentiate between the truth of God and
our own convoluted ideas. Our vain imaginings. Too often Bahais impose their
own interpretations upon their fellow co-religionists. Interpretations that
don't necessarily hold water.

Wherever there is power, there is a conspiracy.

Bill
