David,

Regarding the last name Brill, when I was a child, my father told me
that Brill was a Jewish name, but that there were other Brills who were
not Jewish.

The Jewish Brills all come from one area of Poland (near Germany) that
was German speaking. One genealogist told me that Brill was in fact an
acronym for a group of followers of Ben Rabbi Yehuda Lowe. Not being a
genealogist, I haven't researched it any further than that.

I do know that every Jewish Brill I've met has the same oral history
regarding the place and language of our European ancestry.

Regards,

Susan

Dear Susan,

>When my husband and I were consulting, before we married, regarding my

>professional work already done under my maiden name of Brill, 2) my
>strong desire for a family name that would linguistically and

I'm sure you'd know more than me, but are you sure that Brill is a
Jewish
name? Oddly enough, I went out to dinner with a couple Brill's tonight.
I
asked about the origin of their name, and they said it was Danish. They

didn't say anything about it being Jewish, and neither look Jewish at
all,
or have ever said they were Jewish.

Regards,
David
