Dear David, I think the reason it is two-fold. 1) Since we are talking about the *highest* position of authority within the Faith it signifies a symbolic limitation on women's equality in ways that say, excluding them from the military does not. In other words, it is a hierarchical exclusion. 2) It tends to some rather disturbing speculations about supposedly innate differences between men and women which can lead to their being treated unequally in other areas as well. warmest, Susan ---------- You are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Baha'i Studies is available through the following: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://list.jccc.net/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=bahai-st news://list.jccc.net/bahai-st http://www.escribe.com/religion/bahaist (public) http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] (public)
