Dear Matt: Abu-SufyAn was one of the leading figures of Mecca who opposed the Prophet Muhammad for many years. His wife Hind is known as Hind the liver-eater because, in one of the battles, she made sure someone would kill His uncle Hamza and she then ripped open his belly and started eating his liver while it was still warm on the battlefield. Anyway, Abu-SufyAn professed his faith/belief in Islam when Mecca fell. He is the father of Mu`Awiyah. So, in a way, he was the founder of the Umayyad dynasty.
