Sandra is correct. The part about the fetid Persian baths is just a
parenthetical sentence. The "it" in "pouring it upon his body" refers to
"water" i.e., the kind of water that He wants you to bathe in, not the
kind of malodorous dirty water that He wants you to avoid.
