Sandra is correct. The part about the fetid Persian baths is just a parenthetical sentence. The "it" in "pouring it upon his body" refers to "water" i.e., the kind of water that He wants you to bathe in, not the kind of malodorous dirty water that He wants you to avoid.
Thank you for pointing that out. I read the passage again and see that you are right. I thought I might have missed something, because my reading didn't make much sense. So okay then, I guess this passage then allows for a shower to cover the requirement to bathe weekly. Of course, it is speaking of pouring water from a bath over the person, but I don't think that is a problem.
