Vughan, thanks I think you are on the right track. The clue is the translation of the Tablet of the Branch. According to Lacroix-Hopson (Abdu'l-Baha in New York) and Juliet Thompson's Diary, this was done on the Day of the Covenant November 28th by Dr, Baghdadi and Dr Farid with Abdu'l-Baha supervising and published on the 2nd of December days out from Abdu'l-Baha's departure.
Its still difficult to find the exact solemn occaision but it appears to be the talk at the Kinneys on December 2nd in which Abdu'l-Baha talks about the most great characteristic of the Bahai Revelation being the institution of the Center of the Covenant. This is the talk that Howard Colby Ives accepted the Faith and reported in his memoirs. Its solemnity I suppose is that it represents his last meetings with his followers. To be honest there seems a little discrepancy between Century of Light and God Passes By. I prefer the God Passes By version. Balyuzi is talking about Chicago? >Dear Steve, <Judging from God Passes By, the solemn occasion was "the dynamic affirmation <by Him of the implications of the Covenant instituted by Baha'u'llah, <following the reading of the newly translated Tablet of the Branch, in a <general assembly of His followers in New York". Balyuzi appears to give the <date for this as June 19. The book Century of Light quotes Juliet <Thompson's recollection of what 'Abdu'l-Baha said to Lua Getsinger earlier <on that same day. ---------- You are subscribed to Baha'i Studies as: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Baha'i Studies is available through the following: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://list.jccc.net/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=bahai-st news://list.jccc.net/bahai-st http://www.escribe.com/religion/bahaist (public) http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] (public)
