I have always assumed it was the same reason that we have no first person
accounts of Baha'u'llah's Declaration. Shoghi Effendi said the exact words
Baha'u'llah said in the Garden of Ridvan and the exact circumstances would
be difficult for future historians to penetrate.

So it's because nobody wrote it down. I think that in the future, the
same will be asked of this generation:

Why didn't the Baha'is of that time write down better accounts of the
Hands of the Faith and their travels? Why didn't they label their photos
and send them to the Archives?

Why didn't the Baha'is make video recordings of the believers in their
midst who met the Master, the Greatest Holy Leaf, the Guardian?

Why didn't the Baha'is make video recordings of the Knights of
Baha'u'llah, how they chose the country they settled, how they taught,
what challenges they faced, how they prayed, how the first believer came
into the Cause in that country?

It's because we don't have enough of a historical perspective, a
realization that in future people will want this information.
