hang on. you guys say 5th gear? up a slope?
5th is overdrive (sorry for stating the obvious). Top gear is *not* meant for pulling power. On long slopes, pretty much any vehicle needs to be down shifted. More in the case of engines that have very low torque at low revs, like the classic pulsars. In contrast, a bike like a bull will be able to handle inclines better in top gear, but once the slope increases, even they will need to shift a gear down. Of course the presence of a tuning issue would have compounded the problem, but in any case, using overdrive is not the most efficient way to take inclines. You might actually consume more fuel in 5th (than in a lower gear) because by instinct you open the throttle more when you feel the bike not pulling. You just feed in more petrol but that goes unburnt. -- Kailas Shastry. -- !! -- [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
