Dear Friends,

Problem with my P150 ES Beta yesterday. Here are the details:-

- Started the bike with the selfstarter on a decently cold morning. Bike
started as expected in such weather, with two tries or so. After driving
for about 800 metres, the bike suddenly stopped. Looked like the petrol was
over. When I checked, it wasn't over. While driving for the 800 metres or
so, there were one or two jerks - like petrol finishing. But these got
benefit of doubt, as Delhi weather tends to get inside the bike ;)
- Pulled out the fuel pipe from the carb (yes a carb! I know carbs
are relatively vintage now with Ps and mine is a 'vintage' 2002 model!)
There was some apparant muddiness in the petrol for 1 second, as it freely
flowed out from the pipe. Put the pipe back. Started the bike.

- In stationary condition, the bike would idle easily at 1000 RPM. However,
the moment the accelerator was given, it would cut the engine. Tried this at
least 40 times. All with kick start now. Each time identical result. On one
or two occasions, the RPM went up to 2000 RPM.

- I had to urgently go. So parked the bike nearby and called my dad who is
luckily in town. He got my car and I could proceed.

- Evening upon returning to location to retreive the bike: -

Started the bike with self. Some stutters and sputters. Then bike moved fine
as if nothing had happenned. Came home and parked the bike. Now I am
wondering if this thing would happen again. What if it happens 5 Kms later,
when I am in some other crazy hurry.

Any tips why this happenned?

I am thinking it was dirt in the carb. Does it have a seive of some kind
that can be cleared? I have never opened this carb with my own hands
earlier. Only carb that I have ripped apart various times and reassembled
was from a lambretta 150, and that was some 20 years back! However, I still
remember the details of that carb pretty well. Is this 4 stroke carb
hopefully going to be similar to that two stroker?

Ciao // Rajeev.
