Hey Guys,

I am Sudindra from Bangalore and I bought a 2004 model P150 kick start in Dec
09 and got it done up. The bore set was replaced and the bike was running with
some problems with idling speed and some smoke. This is due to the carburettor
which was also replaced (UG3 carb).

About 2 months ago after service the vehicle started misfiring when running.
The auto electrician replaced all the coils and the bike ran fine for exactly
760 kms and then the problem reappeared. Then it was located to be the problem
of the CDI unit (as per the electrician). There was no original CDI unit
available in the market but he somehow managed to procure a used unit and fixed
the same. This ran fine for about 3-4 days and now the problem has reappeared.

Part # of the CDI which came with the bike - DH 11 1019
Part # of the CDI replaced is same as above.

Some observations:

1. With the original unit which was in the vehicle there was a lot of starting
problems and had to open the throttle to get the bike to fire when I kick
started (also it would misfire when starting and it had to be kicked real hard
to start). This has resolved with the present CDI. Even on the first start in
the morning i just have to kick and it fires.

2. The mileage was around 45-47 Kpl with the original unit (with a lot of
petrol smell from the exhaust) and this time with the replaced unit I have got
56 kpl (and the petrol smell from the exhaust is negligible.)

3. With the first CDI unit I had to keep the engine running above 3K rpm for
it to be running (after the misfiring starts) but with the present CDI it has
come down to 1.5-2K rpm. The bike always runs fine at higher rpms (with both
CDI units)

4. One strange thing that I have observed all the 3 times when the problem
started that it would occur when the bike came to reserve. ( I don't know
whether this is sheer coincidence or it has some implication)

Though we have hunted high and low at all places in Bangalore the original
replacement part is not available with anyone and some of the spare part
dealers advised me that BAL has not been supplying this part for quite sometime
and was also advised to replace with what was termed as local part. I don't
know whether this would be advisable and if it would cause any harm to the bike.

Alternately is there some other bikes CDI which would match the same. If so
advice with part #.

Being without the bike is really impossible for me.

COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT AND ALSO LET ME KNOW IF THE REAL PROBLEM LIES
WITH THE CDI UNIT OR ELSEWHERE.
