Mon cher Lt. Colonel
Please find a large bottle of brandy accompanying this letter (if the
blackguard delivering it hasn't drunk it). A small token of appreciation
for your kindness in getting me to that chirurgeon before I completely ran
out of blood. I will be happy to pay for the stains to be removed from your
clothing or, if this proves impossible, stand you a new set of finery from
the best tailor in Paris! (The one that the Musketeer's haven't discovered
yet)
If you would also be kind enough, please inform Captains d'Emsay and de
Lange that we will be going on maneuvers this month as planned, even if I
have to strap myself to my horse. They are to ready the men and prepare for
a month at the front.
We must get together when I return so that you can tell me exactly what
_did_ happen last month. I remember little other than that damn' sword
being nearly as big as its owner, and thinking that it was going to hurt.
When I woke up, I was home in bed with Gerard fussing over me like a mother
hen...
I remain
Your Servant
Michel
