many thanks for your prompt response to my application. Had I realised that the
application should have been made to your good self I would have approached you
directly but my latest information indicated that your Colonel was available to
provide me with a decision.
On the subject of "references" I have an adequate, if not unlimited supply, and
am capable of purchasing a Captaincy and the horse necessary for that position.
I would hope to see active duty at the earliest possible date, both to make a
military reputation for myself, and to collect a few more "references".
I have enclose a few testimonila letters with this note and I hope that my
applaication may meet with your approval.
