Marquis Zilvain,

Thank you for your concern regarding my application as Minister of War. You
may certainly inquire as to the reason, but as to the lateness of the hour I
certainly don't recall hearing that the alloted time had already passed. My
reasons are actually quite simple. I wish to see the fighting men of France
brought together into a cohesive fighting force the likes of which we have
only dreamed. And I believe my chances of success are greater than any
other currently in position to assume this role. Is this a mistaken belief?
Perhaps. But it is mine and nothing can change that.

I would not be so quick as to bandy around that you have the backing of
certain individuals either, my good sir. It dimishes your own personal
worth. I admit with pride that I have no backing. I trust to my own
accomplishments to see me to positions of leadership and not by the grace of
my betters or my peers. And how would the Minister of State react to your
very public announcement of intent to personally kill another member of His
Majesty's armies? Is it not the mantle of the Minister of War to promote
the effectiveness and abilities of the armies rather than attempt to
diminish them with an unnecessary and thoroughly selfish death among it's
ranks?

So while I thank you for your suggestions, I must humbly decline your offer.
Perhaps your own interest in foreign affairs would be more to your
capabilities?

Yours in honour,

Major le Duc Alain de Sevigny, Royal Foot Guards
His Majesty's Minister of Supply
