Gentlemen,

In no way do I wish to diminish two of the ranking gentlemen of Paris and
accomplished military men, but I must ask the following. What
qualifications, other than rank at the King's blessing, do the two gentlemen
in question possess to become Minister of War? One is a Lt. Colonel and the
other is a Major and at least one in a respectable regiment. However,
gentlemen, those ranks, and mine too, are nothing but line ranks and we are
far from deciding overall strategy and regimental deployments. I, would,
prefer a seasoned general who has proven his mettle, on the field of battle
as a solider, as a line commander, as a general and of course as a member of
His Majesty's court.

Perhaps other civilian posts might be suitable to grow your careers, until
such as time as you both are able to climb higher through the ranks and
prove yourself as commanders of regiments.

Yours,
Colonel le Chevalier Henri du Bois
King's Musketeers

P.S. Yes, I am fully aware that there becomes a bottleneck to advancement
the higher you climb within a regiment, and the more dignified and respected
a regiment is.
