Hi,

Hi Andy,

I have a number of servers that I backup to a bareos server with plenty of
disk storage.
I get this error (after s number of days of no problems with the jobs):

bareos-sd JobId 181: Job server3-var-backup.2021-05-10_23.00.01_03 is
waiting. Cannot find any appendable volumes.
Please use the "label" command to create a new Volume for:
Storage: "Server3Storage" (/data1/server3)
Pool: Incremental
Media type: File

I had this error before, and then I increased the Maximum Volumes to 1000 in
the files /etc/bareos/bareos-dir.d/pool/  (Incremental.conf, Full.conf,
.....)

This means, you ran out of *volumes* (not necessarily out of *disk space*).

What is the correct way to configure this so I don't get this problem
anymore? I have more diskspace on the backup server than all my other
servers combined, so storage on the backup server should not be a problem
for the near or medium far future.

Are you doing a Full-Differential-Incremental strategy or AlwaysIncremental? In the second case, I cannot help you (as I do not use that strategy for my backups). In the first case: Do you have a recent-enough Full/Differential backup? If you have too few of them, you will accumulate quite a number of incrementals in-between (though, 1000 seems plenty even in this case - or are you backing up hundrets of servers?).

In either case, also have a look at your Volume Retention and possibly set AutoPrune in your Pool configurations.

best regards,
Andy

HTH,
Erich
