All,

First off, thanks for Barry. BB tethering was the last thing keeping me
on Windows.

However, all is not rosy. I have a strange problem and can't figure
out where it lies. Could be Barry, but it could be somewhere, but I'll
start with Barry.

I've installed the Barry 0.13 binary packages on a laptop running
Kubuntu 8.0.4.1

Everything seems to run fine, I backed up my BB (an 8703e running on
Sprint) and tethering works as well. Issuing pppd call barry-sprint
(either as root or as a user) results in the expected action, e.g. I
get an IP assigned from Sprint and routes/dns are updated as well. So
far so good.

BUT, there is always a but, the DNS machines assigned by Sprint don't
work. So I changed the IPs in resolv.conf to OpenDNS, which works fine
for most command line applications. I can ping and telnet to open ports
just fine. However, no GUI app works at all.

This would seem to point to an issue with Ubuntu's updating of various
DNS and other caches, but it could also be Barry interacting in a funny
way with Network Manager. So I have a few questions that might help
point me in the right direction:

1. Has anyone seen anything like this?
2. Has anyone translated the barry ppp scripts successfully to Kppp
(which is used by Network Manager)?
3. Does anyone have tethering on Sprint + Kubuntu 8.0.4.1 working properly?
4. Any other ideas where I should look to trouble shoot? I've been
using Linux for around 15 years, so feel free to ask something
complicated ;-)

Thx.

Chris.
