I was unaware of that. I tried the manual slow-sync because I faintly remember 
reading somewhere that it would correct duplicate entries.

The real problem here is that I didn't manually do the slow-sync when the 
duplicates got created. The script decided I needed a slow-sync because the 
previous sync wasn't successfull. That just made a bad situation worse. It 
would have been better to not sync at all.
